Vanilla Cake by HanaClayWorks Vanilla Cake by HanaClayWorks
My "realistic" cake. It needs work, I know. There's a space in-between the frosting in the center and the cake bits because that's how the clay was. I don't have any liquid clay so it's hard to make frosting T_T

The bottom is a close-up of the base of the cake pedestal.

I'll make more eventually. haha Maybe something better next time. Only the base is glazed

Made with Fimo clay, colored with acrylics, glazed with Krylon Crystal Clear Glaze

Dimensions: the pedestal stands about 1" high and is about 1 1/4" wide, the cake is 1" wide and 3/4" high, plates are 1" wide, and the slices are approximately 1/4" wide.

Delicious looking cake!

You made the plates and stand to? wow

Also, would you be willing to share how you get the cake texture? Velcro or sandpaper maybe?

a medical probe with a really sharp end. xD

what i do is just take something with a sharp pointy end (like a long needle or toothpick... or in my case, a medical probe) and jab at the cake, twisting the tool around and teasing the clay to make the little holes and "crumbs" that you see. it takes a little while to do each cake that way, but it makes it 10xs more realistic looking. =P

hope that helps! if i could post videos here, i would... but i don't think dA does video...
it's something that's hard to explain just on paper, y'know?

very true... the problem is making a video. xD i'm video-illiterate. i couldn't even use a camcorder if it was turned on and handed to me. T^T

The time it takes is defiantely worth it, the texture is excellent!

i was thinking of starting a youtube video thing on how to do certain processes that i can't explain just in words and still pictures... or i'll just make a .gif? xP haven't decided, but keep practicing! cake texture can be annoying, but it IS totally worth it. :D

The texture in this cake is amazing. Seriously, invest in some TLS or diluent (my preference). It's so much fun to make frosting with, and even if that's all you ever use it for, I think it's totally worth it.
